The Star 31/03/2009 - KUANTAN: Residents of Kampung Padang here can breathe easily as the area’s sewerage treatment plant has been repaired by Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK).
According to Sungei Lembing assemblyman Datuk Md Sohaimi Mohamed Shah, the residents could now enjoy a better sewerage service, which was an essential feature in the people’s daily life.
He said the cost of repairing the plant was RM1.2mil.
“Now that the repair works have been completed, the plant will be able to process the discharge.
“It meets the Government’s objective of ensuring the people enjoy a good quality life and protect the environment from being polluted by untreated waste,” he said in his speech before officially launching the IWK Open Day here recently.
Also present were Semambu assemblyman Datuk Pang Tsu Ming, IWK operations and maintenance general manager Ir Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, IWK state operations manager Zaidi Sahor and Kuantan unity officer Syukri Omar.
The event was aimed at creating public awareness on IWK’s functions and roles.
Several events such as colouring contests for the children, talks, exhibitions and guided tours of the area surrounding the plant were held.
Md Sohaimi reminded residents to keep the area clean and not throw things into toilet bowls to prevent blocks in the sewers and damage to the plant.
